The P.V.A. is
a unique Australian organisation. It was formed in 1999 in NSW. Since then
members from around Australia have joined the Association. WA formed an
Incorporated State Branch in May 2003 and currently has a membership of
approximately 180. Membership is
open to all current and former partners and widow/ers of veterans with
qualifying service, regardless of which armed force or conflict the veteran
served in. The P.V.A.
offers emotional support and friendship of others in a similar situation.
Members are regularly informed of their entitlements and avenues of support
available throughout the Veteran and wider community. We are currently in
contact with Centrelink to work out a way to avoid the ongoing problems with the
Carers Allowance. Members are kept informed by a quarterly National Newsletter
and also a state newsletter. WA currently
has Support Groups in Bunbury, Burns Beach, Northern Suburbs, Perth and South
West (Mandurah). In 2004 we hope to obtain funding for an Awareness Campaign to
allow us to travel throughout the state to talk to partners in the rural and
country areas. As part of the Awareness Campaign we will be holding our
Quarterly State Committee Meetings away from Perth with Dongara in February and
hopefully Kalgoorlie in May. Our Perth
meeting is held at 25
Irwin St Perth on the second Tuesday of the month at 9.30am – 1.30pm. Further details and membership application forms may be obtained from Sandra Cross (08) 9248 1104 or wscross@bigpond.net.au or Box 3177 MALAGA DC WA 6945 Back
